Low cortisol
Low cortisol levels may indicate Addison’s disease.Low cortisol, along with electrolyte changes such as low sodium or high potassium, can suggest adrenal insufficiency. When low cortisol is detected, further evaluation — including ACTH levels and a Synacthen (ACTH stimulation) test — may be required to confirm adrenal gland dysfunction.
