A graduate of UCC, Billy has over 20 years’ experience leading INAB accredited laboratories in the Life Science and Veterinary Science disciplines. A laboratory entrepreneur, Billy has been involved in the establishment and development of several highly successful Laboratory Groups in Ireland, including, Advanced Laboratory Testing Ltd and more recently, the establishment of Enfer Medical Limited.

In March 2020, Billy led the establishment of the COVID-19 testing facility at Enfer and as Chairperson of Enfer Medical, Billy now looks forward to an exciting chapter in the laboratory landscape in Ireland.

A graduate of the Department of Industrial Microbiology, University College Dublin, Paul has over 20 years’ experience leading large teams in high-throughput diagnostic testing at INAB accredited laboratories. Paul has worked with the Enfer Group for over 20 years and has led the implementation and management of national contracts for TSE and BvD providing PCR testing for over 1.6m samples each year.

Paul has been instrumental in the establishment, roll-out, management and delivery of COVID-19 diagnostic testing at Enfer since March 2020 and he continues to manage all aspects of Enfer Medical laboratory operations.

Margaret has worked as a Quality Manager in laboratories accredited to ISO17025 for 22 years and successfully maintained INAB accreditation throughout this time. The laboratories involved were in the Microbiological and Chemical testing of Food, Water and Environmental samples, and Animal Disease testing. Margaret leads and manages the operation and development of the laboratory quality management system and engages all laboratory team members in the delivery and embedding of the culture and practices of that system.

In 2021, Margaret led the team at Enfer Medical to successfully undertake their first INAB audit under the ISO15189 standard and accreditation was approved at the INAB Board Meeting on 13th December 2021. Margaret is joined by a team of highly skilled quality assurance specialists.

Having spent 13 years at Director level working for a successful Irish Entrepreneur, Dolores joined the Irish Hepatitis C Outcomes Research Network (ICORN) in 2014 working with a multidisciplinary team of Infectious Disease Consultants, Hepatologists, Public Health, Scientists, Virologists etc. and overseeing the clinical research programmes/initiatives developed by the Network and Members.

Dolores currently leads the commercial/client services team at Enfer Medical, working collaboratively with clients to deliver a service tailored to their needs and in turn enhancing patient care.

With over 17 years’ experience working in INAB accredited, high throughput diagnostic testing laboratories, Jonathan is an experienced professional with a demonstrated history of leading multiple cross functional teams within accredited Quality Management Systems.

With a key focus on process optimisation, Jonathan moved to Enfer in May 2020 to help establish and automate COVID-19 testing and reporting systems; managing both PCR and Data analysis departments. With a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from Maynooth University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from The National College of Ireland, Jonathan’s effective operational, communication and strategic management skills have proven central to the success of the HSE COVID-19 project at Enfer Medical.

Ann has played a vital role in the establishment and roll out of the COVID-19 testing strategy at Enfer with key responsibility for the Sample Receipt and Sample Preparation Laboratories.

Susan has worked as a Laboratory Manager in laboratories accredited to ISO17025 for over 17 years, leading on and managing the laboratory operations. With a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons) degree from Maynooth University, Certificate in Health Safety and Welfare at Work and Professional Diploma in GDPR from UCD, Susan is now also studying for her BSc (Hons) in Occupational Safety and Health Management from ATU.

In 2022, Susan was appointed as the Health and Safety Manager for the Enfer Group. Susan has a strong interest in Biosafety and Biosecurity and is an Affiliate member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and a member of European Biosafety Association.

Kevin Marron is our Principal Clinical Scientist here at Enfer Medical and leads our Haematology division.  A fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science, he gained his PhD in cardiac immunohistochemistry from Imperial College London in 1996.  From 2008 to 2022, Kevin was Laboratory Manager at one of Ireland’s largest IVF Clinics, co-ordinating clinical testing for the Sims Group of Clinics.  He introduced AMH testing to Ireland in 2011 which has been pivotal in the investigation of reproductive health, usurping both FSH and LH in its diagnostic utility.  A flow cytometry specialist, he has published several top tier articles on the subject of immune mediate pregnancy failure and recently a book chapter in “50 big debates in reproductive medicine”.

Our Medical Directors are responsible for and oversee the clinical, scientific, advisory and educational activities relevant to all services provided. Their leadership is focused on responding to the needs of customers and delivering an exceptional and personalised service ensuring the patient gets the care they deserve.

They are supported by an experienced team of fellow clinical consultants, external expert advisors and professionals at management and board level to provide a quality focused medical laboratory in keeping with ISO15189.

Dr Rosemary Curran is a medical graduate and clinical microbiologist and joined Enfer Medical in October 2023. With extensive experience in clinical microbiology in both the public and private sectors, Dr Curran has worked in Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. She has a special interest in diagnostic clinical microbiology particularly molecular diagnostic microbiology and near-patient testing and experience in acute patient care infection control and antimicrobial stewardship.

Dr Curran believes a good quality management system, communication and customer service underpin an excellent diagnostic microbiology service.

Professor Carel le Roux graduated from medical school in Pretoria South Africa, completed his specialist training in metabolic medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospitals and the Hammersmith Hospitals. He obtained his PhD from Imperial College London where he later took up a faculty position. He moved to University College Dublin for the Chair in Chemical Pathology and Metabolic Medicine and he is now a Director of the Metabolic Medicine Group.

Professor le Roux also holds the position of Professor of Metabolic Medicine at Ulster University and Extra-ordinary Professor of Chemical Pathology at University of Pretoria. He currently coordinates an Innovative Medicine Initiative project on obesity. He previously received a President of Ireland Young Researcher Award, Irish Research Council Laurate Award, Clinician Scientist Award from the National Institute Health Research in the UK, and a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship for his work on how the gut talks to the brain.

Dr. Saad Ahmed joined Enfer Medical in November 2023. He is a Consultant in Clinical and Laboratory Haematology with special interest in Haemostasis and Thrombosis. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK). His role is to oversee the haematology diagnostic services and to provide clinical advice and laboratory quality assurance.

Saad completed his Haematology Specialist Training in Ireland and has worked as a Consultant Haematologist in Ireland since 2019. He completed his MD in Haematology in the Royal College of Surgeons in 2020. Saad is actively involved in medical education for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, clinical research, and multinational clinical trials.

Prof. Colm Bergin is a Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases, St James’s Hospital, Dublin and Professor in Infectious Diseases at Trinity College Dublin. He is Chair, Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme, St James’s Hospital and is Joint Lead, National Infectious Diseases Clinical Programme, Health Service Executive.

Prof. Bergin has clinical and research expertise in chronic viral infections and their treatment outcomes, health services research with particular interests in complications associated with HIV-HCV co-infection, health-related outcomes, medical education, clinical trials and pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment interventions. He developed the clinical specialty of Infectious Diseases at SJH and integrated the specialty with the previously established Department of GU Medicine. He has lead the political advocacy to establish the field of social inclusion health and in advocating for patients from underserved and disadvantaged populations. In March 2020 Professor Bergin was invited to become a member of the National Crisis Management Team (NCMT), HSE and in April 2020 joined the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET), Department of Health (DoH). Professor Bergin was appointed as foundation National Clinical Lead, Infectious Diseases, HSE in March 2020.

Throughout the pandemic, the facility operated on a 24-hour basis, 7 days a week and to date, Enfer has provided over 5 million patients tests for SARS-CoV-2 RNA, becoming the largest COVID-19 testing laboratory in Ireland.
