Low albumin suggests reduced hepatic synthetic function and/or systemic inflammation; clinically, it should prompt assessment for chronic liver disease, nutritional status, and protein loss, and should be interpreted alongside other liver chemistry tests and clinical context. High albumin is uncommon; when encountered, interpret cautiously and in conjunction with the Liver Chemistry Profile (bilirubin, total protein, albumin, ALT, GGT, ALP).
