The most common of these is the development of oral, mucosal and ocular lesions. Genital herpes simplex is a sexually transmitted infection, caused by infection with either HSV-1 or HSV-2 and is common among young women in Ireland. Once infected, the HSV virus remains latent in the body and recurrent infections can occur.
While diagnosis can be made clinically, it should be confirmed with a HSV NAAT swab of the lesions to determine HSV-1 or HSV-2. In Ireland, HSV is notifiable under the Infectious Disease Regulations.
Enfer Medical is pleased to introduce the genital ulcer test for HSV as part of a panel, testing for Syphilis, HSV 1&2 and Varicella-Zoster virus.
