D-dimer is a degradation product of cross-linked fibrin. Their presence in the blood reflects activation of both the coagulation and fibrinolytic systems, making them a useful marker of ongoing or recent clot formation and breakdown.
At Enfer Medical, D-dimer testing is performed using validated immunoassay methods to provide rapid and reliable assessment of fibrin turnover in a variety of clinical contexts. D-dimer is a degradation product of cross-linked fibrin.
D-Dimer containing products are formed by plasmin degradation of Factor XIIIa cross-linked fibrin. Detection of D-Dimers is indicative of reactive fibrinolysis. Elevated levels are found in clinical conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) and disseminated intravascular coagulations (DIC). Hemosil D-Dimer HS 500 is an immunoturbidimetric assay.
Citrated Plasma 3Ml; 3.2% trisodium citrate (Green or light blue Top depending on the manufacturer), filled to the required mark/line. Inadequately filled tubes cannot be tested.

Specimens must be spun as soon as possible after collection. They must be processed (centrifuged, plasma removed from cells and refrigerated) and testing performed within 24 hrs. of collection. If testing is delayed Plasma can be frozen @-20°C and analysis can take place up to 7 days.
In addition to the packaging of samples, the transport/delivery of clinical samples to the laboratory is required to be in adherence to all national regulations for the safe transport of biological materials. Prompt transport of specimens:
To ensure prompt testing of samples and release of results within the published test turnaround times, samples should arrive to the laboratory by 18:00. Test turnaround time is measured from receipt of the sample at the laboratory until the time the authorised results are reported to users.
In rare cases specimens may not be suitable for testing on arrival to the laboratory. In that case the sample will be rejected at the receipt stage and the service user will be notified immediately and an explanation as to why the sample could not be processed will be provided.
