We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Medical Scientist/Principal Clinical Scientist Clinical Chemistry to join our team!

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an exciting and rapidly growing innovative medical facility.  Reporting to the senior management team, you will support the delivery of clinical chemistry service at Enfer Medical, in compliance with best practice and the requirements of international standard ISO 15189.

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Leadership & Supervision
    • Work with the Chief Scientist to provide day-to-day supervision and mentorship to medical scientists, technicians, and trainees.
    • Ensure compliance with laboratory policies, accreditation standards, and quality management systems.
    • Help Allocate and oversee workloads to maintain efficient laboratory operations.
  • Clinical & Technical Expertise
    • Perform and validate complex biochemical analyses with high accuracy and reliability.
    • Troubleshoot instrumentation, methodologies, and analytical issues.
    • Provide specialist advice and interpretation of results to clinicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Quality & Accreditation
    • Help guide internal quality control (IQC) and external quality assurance (EQA) processes.
    • Monitor assay performance and implement corrective/preventive actions when required.
    • Contribute to laboratory audits, accreditation inspections, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Research & Development
    • Evaluate and implement new assays, methodologies, and emerging technologies.
    • Participate in clinical trials, method validation, and laboratory innovation projects.
    • Contribute to evidence-based practice through research, presentations, and publications.
  • Training & Education
    • Help deliver training and competency assessments for junior staff, students, and new team members.
    • Provide continuing education and professional development opportunities.
    • Act as a subject matter expert in clinical chemistry for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Maintain high standards of biosafety, chemical safety, and risk management.
    • Ensure staff compliance with regulatory and ethical guidelines.
    • Investigate and report incidents, ensuring corrective action is taken.
  • Operational & Strategic Contribution
    • Liaise with clinicians to ensure service delivery meets clinical needs.

Skill Requirements:

  • BSc (minimum QQI Level 8 or equivalent) allied to the file of clinical science and laboratory medicine.
  • Be registered on the Medical Scientists Register Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU, OR eligible for CORU registration as a Medical Scientist OR is registered with an equivalent medical scientist registration body in another country.
  • Eligible for membership of the ACSLM.
  • Have previous experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory (at least 5 years) with two of those years in a senior role.
  • Have experience working in clinical chemistry and blood sciences. Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
