Anti‑Thyroglobulin Antibodies are measured to help identify autoimmune thyroid disorders. Anti‑thyroid antibodies may be checked when thyroid dysfunction is suspected, as they can be present in conditions such as Graves’ disease or thyroiditis. These antibodies support diagnosis when thyroid hormone levels are abnormal and can help determine whether an autoimmune process is contributing to thyroid symptoms.
High (Positive) TgAb
A positive Anti Thyroglobulin Antibody result suggests the presence of autoimmune thyroid disease, as anti thyroid antibodies may occur in conditions such as Graves’ disease or thyroiditis. High levels support an autoimmune cause when thyroid function tests are abnormal, helping to explain thyroid dysfunction.
Low or Negative TgAb
A low or absent Anti Thyroglobulin Antibody level makes autoimmune thyroid disease less likely, particularly when thyroid hormone tests are normal. In such cases, thyroid dysfunction- if present – may have a non autoimmune cause. Anti thyroid antibodies are present specifically in autoimmune conditions, so absence reduces that likelihood.

Specimens must be spun within 8 hours and tested within 3 days of collection and stored at 2-8°C. Remove serum from the clot if testing will be delayed for more than 8 hours.
In addition to the packaging of samples, the transport/delivery of clinical samples to the laboratory is required to be in adherence to all national regulations for the safe transport of biological materials. Enfer Medical provides a fully compliant logistics service, aligned with clients’ testing requirements.
Prompt transport of specimens:
To ensure prompt testing of samples and release of results within the published test turnaround times, samples should arrive to the laboratory by 18:00. Test turnaround time is measured from receipt of the sample at the laboratory until the time the authorised results are reported to users.
In rare cases specimens may not be suitable for testing on arrival to the laboratory. In that case the sample will be rejected at the receipt stage and the service user will be notified immediately and an explanation as to why the sample could not be processed will be provided.
