Roles and Responsibilities 

• Perform pre-analytical and analytical laboratory work to the highest standards, and in accordance with laboratory standard operating procedures. Exercise a professional duty of care to patients and service users.  
• Participate and cooperate with legislative and regulatory requirements with regard to Quality, Risk and Safety.  
• Process patient samples in good time and make sure that turnaround times for reporting results are achieved.  
• Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient information. 
• Participate in the training of staff as required. 
• Participate in a personal development planning process, which forms the basis for the staff annual joint review meeting with the line manager. 
• Comply with Health and Safety requirements as detailed in the Safety Statement and associated policies and procedures and to report any defects or tasks being carried out in an unsafe manner. 
• Any other duties as directed by laboratory management. 

Qualifications and Experience

• Leaving Certificate or equivalent. 
• A 3rd level science qualification is desirable 
• Further qualification(s) in any laboratory discipline, clinical laboratory experience or work in an accredited environment is desirable but not essential. 
• Able to work both independently and as part of a team. 
• Good analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
