HSE Guidelines for the Preparation for Transport of Patient Specimens and other Biological Materials 2019:

‘In line with the requirements of the dangerous goods transport regulations, biological substances must be
correctly classified to determine their status prior to being offered for transport. It is the responsibility of the
consignor/shipper to determine the correct classification. This requires knowledge of the nature of the
sample material and the classification criteria.’
